Head Coach: Carleton Ahls - Carl is ASCA II certified with over 500 educational units. He's previously been an assistant coach for the Sharks, Central Indiana Aquatics, and the Kokomo High School Boys and Girls teams. Coach Carl was a Quad Coach for this year's Team Indiana. He's completed all five ASCA certification schools as well as all four ASCA advanced stroke schools. In all, Carl's completed over 30 ASCA & USA Swimming courses or clinics. Carl is an Indiana certified Official, Starter, and Referee. He's a firm believer in coach's education and professional development. As a retired Air Force pilot, he achieved the rank of Colonel during his career. He has both a BS degree and an MA degree. Carl swam competitively for over 12 years in Ohio, Texas, and South Carolina. Carl coaches the Gold Group and our Senior Group.
Age Group Coach: Beth Ahls - Beth is also an ASCA II certified coach and an Indiana Stroke and Turn Official. She is a native Hoosier from Dunkirk (Jay County), Indiana. Beth graduated locally from Ball State University. She was an accountant by education, a stay at home mom by choice, and a swim coach by desire. Along with deck coaching Beth performs all the duties of our team's Administrative Coach, keeping the team's software and databases current. Beth and Carl have both attended numerous clinics to include Chicago's Central States Swim Clinic. They have one daughter on the team. Beth also serves as our Meet Director and Treasurer. Beth is our Silver coach.
Age Group Coach: Erika Creason - Erika started swimming in Michigan at nine. After moving to Indiana, she swam for the Carmel Swim Club and for Carmel High School. She was a state swimmer in Age Group and High School swimming, learning under Ray Lawrence while at Carmel. A freestyler and a backstroker, she also excelled in both the 50 sprints and the 500 distance events. She swam in a Masters Program in Chicago. Erika's a Purdue graduate with a degree in Special Education and a mother of 4, with her only daughter following in her footsteps. Erika is currently pursuing an additional degree in nursing (RN), and as such for this summer is not assigned a group but assists where there is a need.
Assistant Age Group Coach: Drew Laughner - Drew's a graduate from Western High School and is currently a college student at Indiana University, Kokomo. He started swimming at eleven and swam for the Sharks, the middle school, and the high school. Drew found a nack for the breaststroke and the Individual Medley. He's proud to have been a part of the 2005-06 MIC Championship team. This is Drew's second year of coaching and he's taken over all of the Copper One and Copper Two training. Obviously, Drew is our Copper Coach but fills in with the Bronze swimmers.
Assistant Age Group Coach: Fred Schorm - Fred is from Kokomo and has swam since he was six. He grew up swimming for the Haworth Swimming Association and was a backstroker and a freestyler. He went on to swim for Haworth High School and was part of the 1982 State Championship Team under Coach Gary Kincade. Fred also swam at Vincennes University and graduated from Purdue University. He has a son, Tyler, swimming on the Sharks. Fred is our newest coach and is in his first year of coaching. He works primarily with the Bronze swimmers.
